Florence.
Inside and around the Duomo, every surface seemed to carry a record.
Blocks fitted to blocks with a confidence that came from repetition. Edges worn smooth where countless palms and shoulders had passed.
Light did what it always does in places built for it. It slid over marble and brick, turned years into something soft, and made old scars read like maps instead of wounds.
When I finally stepped back into the open streets, my stride felt lighter.
