You follow the cobbles downward like a memory with a good appetite.

A crooked sign promises a mortal cocktail and a grin, and you grin back, because the honest places never pretend to be perfect.

Down here the air tastes like rain and old ink. You feel lighter as the alley narrows, as if the past is handing its weight to the future one soft stone at a time.

A stranger laughs somewhere below and the sound climbs, warm and human, proof that even in a quiet vein the city still circulates hope.
